We bought a Slähult table top from the as-is department and fastened it to the top of our existing Expedit shelf unit to make a kitchen island for our new-to-us home. (We plan to re-do the kitchen in Grimslöv but in the mean time we needed more counter space!) To fasten the top to the shelf unit, we straightened out 4 Vågen curtain rod brackets we had left over from a previous project to an L-shape, then screwed the top & shelf unit together. Materials: Ikea MONGSTAD Mirror and Ikea stool This is a hack to turn the Ikea mirror into a stowaway dining room table that seats 6 people. Great for people with small apartments but who still want to host dinners/events. Steps: 1) Attach two hinges to bottom of mirror 2) Attach two eyelets to side of mirror 3) Attach two hooks to wall 4) Attach mirror to wall via other end of hinges Use: 1) While in the ‘up/mirror’ position, the wall hooks feed through the eyelets and prevent the mirror from falling down. 2) In the ‘down/table’ position, the stool supports the table end opposite…

I have 6 white Gnedby shelves firmly screwed into each other and I got the Norje doors, which we used for our kitchen. With 6 shelves an appropriate division arose, so I used two glass doors at the top and three solid doors at the bottom. Thus, giving us enough compartments to stow spice jars or similar. Remember that the holes have to be drilled individually for the doors, best screwed in front of the whole. Finally remember to screw the shelves to the…

  • Rethinking the Open Plan Office

    OCU
    20 Mar 2015 | 5:40 am
In today’s workplace, the open office is ubiquitous. The idea of an open plan was originally intended to foster teamwork and encourage creative thinking, but the downside is the potential for distraction and lack of privacy. Of course, workers need to interact with one another, but when you’re constantly in the presence of your co-workers, sometimes it can feel like just too much contact. Too Much Noise The main complaint of workers who are in open plan offices is noise – because there are so many people in the office, and there are no walls, you can’t help but overhear conversations…

Doesn’t it make sense that you should have a few other things stashed away, just in case of emergency? Why not dedicate a drawer to other things that could make your life easier at work? Food If you have to work late, or you forget to bring lunch, a little stash of munchables can make life a lot easier. If no one in your office has allergies, bring some peanut butter and a box of crackers.

  • Mattress Comparisons

    20 Apr 2015 | 10:54 am
Whether you’re shopping for a new mattress on- or offline, it can be extremely difficult to conduct mattress comparisons. This is because mattress stores (and some online companies) intentionally try to keep you misinformed. Often times the materials, layers, and other construction specs of the mattress are not 100% clear or are missing entirely. This puts buyers in a situation where they cannot effectively compare mattresses of different brands or models, giving mattress salesmen all of the power. I created Sleepopolis to change that. We’re putting power back in the hands of…
