Every office desk has paper clips. Whether you keep them in one of those magnetic holders that’s specially designed for them, put them in a trinket box, or just let them collect at the bottom of your desk drawer, you have them. Of course, you know that their main purpose is to hold sheets of paper together, but they have a ton of other uses as well. Some of these you may have already heard of, or tried. Others may be new to you. Maybe you even have uses no one else has heard of! Crafts If you like to paint, you can use a paper clip for fine detailing. String paper clips together to make a…

What to Do When People Keep Borrowing Your Desk Chair People can feel incredibly proprietary when it comes to workplace items that are owned by the company, but which they nonetheless consider to be “theirs.” This is especially true of the office chair, and it may be due largely to the fact that many office chairs can be difficult to adjust. People take them, adjust them to suit their specific needs, and then return them that way – if they return them at all. If you’re sick and tired of having to go on a mission to find and rescue your office chair time after time, there are a few…

Everyone, everywhere, feels the need to personalize their office. Most people exercise a modicum of restraint, and do it tastefully. Others just don’t get it – it’s possible for an office to be personalized to the extent that at best, it makes the people around you very uncomfortable, or at worst, it makes you look mentally unstable. This isn’t a fully inclusive list, but the following are some of the items that you really shouldn’t have on your desk, your office bookshelves, or for that matter, anywhere in your office that they might be visible. Offensive Signs If you think it’s…

Your boardroom is one of the most important areas of your office space. It’s where you meet and make an impression on your clients, communicate information to stakeholders, and facilitate communication among your staff in order to ensure that things run smoothly and effectively. If your boardroom is going to do all that for you, then it has to be properly designed and furnished. Décor When decorating your boardroom, it’s best to avoid “trendy” colors. Orange may be the hot new color this year, but that doesn’t mean your boardroom walls should look like you’ve gone crazy…

You no doubt have enough basic office supplies, like rubber bands, staples and paper clips, but think about how much time you spend in your office – it’s usually a minimum of eight hours a day! Doesn’t it make sense that you should have a few other things stashed away, just in case of emergency? Why not dedicate a drawer to other things that could make your life easier at work? Food If you have to work late, or you forget to bring lunch, a little stash of munchables can make life a lot easier. If no one in your office has allergies, bring some peanut butter and a box of crackers.

    IKEA Hackers

  • IKEA chip clips to the rescue

    Steph
    3 Mar 2015 | 10:46 am
Materials: Bevara Kitchen Storage Sealing Chip Clips With two toddlers, mealtime can be extremely messy. They’re too old for bibs, but they need something to protect their clothes when eating soup, yogurt, etc. Enter the IKEA chip clips. Grab a tea towel (the IKEA ones actually do work best – perfect size and thickness), a large clip, and voila – you’ve got a neck-all-the-way-down-to-the-ankles protector. Grab a smaller clip and keep long pigtails from falling into the food – they are so great for this as even very fine hair doesn’t get stuck in the clips…

Materials: 3 Billy 40 cm wide I have this very nice closet in my hallway, I thought it would be just perfect for my shoes (I love shoes) when we bought the apartment. I searched a while on the net to find ideas to upgrade it, and i was on my way to buy 122 cm wide cut-to-measure shelves to complete my storage when I realized that 3 x 40 cm = 120 cm = 3 IKEA famous Billy! I bought a nice wall paper (chosen by my 7 years old princess), some nice wood-molding, already painted. I put the wall paper on the back of the book case, which was trickier than I thought. I fitted all 3 Billy fixed…

Materials: STUVA cabinets and legs, doors We just added a little over 300 square feet to our house, which included a home office! We needed to furnish the room, and I loved the idea of a wall to wall desk. Finding an affordable option was difficult though. I’ve always loved the modern look of the STUVA cabinets, and I love that they are meant for kids (which means they are sturdy and have hinges great for little fingers!) I thought they’d look perfect in my modern/industrial looking office space! I bought three STUVA base cabinets with doors and the 12 IKEA legs for the base. I…

Materials: BESTÅ TV Unit with steel chrome-plated underframe Our dog, Maggie has always slept in a dog crate in our bedroom. After recently moving into a new home, we saw that the old, worn-out crate was taking up too much room, and decided that it was time for a new solution. Maggie likes the comfort and security of a crate, and has always refused to use only a pillow or dog bed. We had been using this BESTA television stand as an end table and to store blankets, but realized that with a few changes, it could be put to better use as a fancy customized dog sanctuary.
